St Joseph’s School, Ōtāhuhu

DLM was engaged by the Catholic Diocese of Auckland to design a new teaching block for St Joseph’s School, Ōtāhuhu, responding to continued roll growth and the need to replace ageing classroom facilities.

The project began with a master planning exercise to determine the optimal location for the new building. An existing library and three-classroom block were demolished to accommodate for the two-storey development on the corner of High Street and Church Street. The design combines contemporary perforated metal screens with brickwork and robust precast concrete, creating a façade that responds to both the school's context and modern educational needs. A prominent cross-shaped feature window marks the corner, reflecting the school's Catholic identity. The new building provides flexible open-plan learning spaces, breakout rooms, art and wet areas, a library, a resource room, a meeting room and a kitchen along with laundry space.
