Selwyn College Media and Social Sciences Block
The new single storey teaching block at Selwyn College provides a design response to the school’s requirements for specialised teaching spaces. The existing school block was no longer fit for purpose with small additions made to the building over time. The existing school block was demolished to allow for the new purpose made teaching spaces. This includes two new media studio spaces which share a green room, sound room and breakout spaces for further collaboration and two new social science teaching spaces with adjacent breakout spaces. An existing Master Plan had been prepared for the school, which highlighted and identified the need to extend and emphasise the existing circulation spine through the school. The new block is located by the main pathway through the school and the outdoor space has been designed to link with this circulation space and adjacent classrooms, while also creating a covered outdoor area for students to use.
